Hot start
By default, sandbox environments start on-demand when a learner starts a track. Using Hot Start you can ensure there is a pool of sandboxes ready which are instantly available when a learner starts your track.
You are billed for sandboxes in Hot Start even if learners are not using them.

Types

Always hot
An always hot pool refills after a sandbox has been claimed by a user. This type of pool ensures there is always a set amount of sandboxes available.
  • An always hot pool will remain active until you delete it.
  • An always hot pool refills.
  • An always hot pool drains unclaimed sandboxes after deletion.
Scheduled
A scheduled pool pre-heats the defined amount of sandboxes from the given start date. When a user claims a sandbox the pool is not refilled. This type of pool ensures there is only ever created a set amount of sandboxes.
  • A scheduled pool is active from its start date until the TTL expires.
  • A scheduled pool will not refill.
  • A scheduled pool drains unclaimed sandboxes after its TTL expires.

Use cases

Self paced training or lead generation

When you use a track for self paced training or lead generation and want to ensure maximum engagement, you can reduce load times by using Hot Start to maintain a pool of pre-heated sandboxes.
How?
Step 1: Configure
  • Select the tracks that should be pre-heated
  • Define the Number of hot sandboxes per track
  • Configure type Always hot

Classroom training

Schedule a Hot Start pool to give your students instant access to the their sandbox, so they experience no waiting time and can all start at the same time.
How?
Step 1: Configure
  • Select the tracks your students will play in this classroom training.
  • Define the Number of hot sandboxes per track as the amount of students you expect.
  • Configure type Scheduled
Step 2: Schedule
  • Define the date and time the pool should begin provisioning. We recommend to allow enough time for all sandboxes to become ready.
  • Define the TTL of the Hot Start pool. The TTL defines the duration the pool exists. After the TTL expires the sandboxes that have not been claimed will be shutdown.
